boys and masculinity.

i am humbled every. single. day. by the great responsibility and opportunity i have been given to
raise boys.

i absolutely, 100% love it.

if you had asked me before having children if i wanted boys or girls,

I would have most likely said both.
and while this is still true, i have found myself secretly wanting another boy with each new baby.

i'm not sure why, other than there is this deep enjoyment and fulfillment i find in

mothering and raising little boys.
i know i would and will find the same if God ever chose to bless our family with a little girl,
but as of now, my heart and home are filled to the brim with all things BOY.

my floors are usually covered in little army men, or dinosaurs, or cars and trucks, or super heroes.

my older two are constantly tumbling around from room to room like two little bear cubs.
"fighting" is a way of life...always to save someone from the bad guys, of course. ;)

"a man needs a battle to fight;
he needs a place for the warrior in him to come alive and be honored, trained, seasoned.
if we can reawaken that fierce quality in a man,
hook it up to a higher purpose,
release the warrior within,
then the boy can grow up and become truly masculine."
john eldredge, wild at heart.

i adore the aspects of God that little boys becoming men display.
they are fierce.
they are relentless in their love.
they want to save people and protect and serve.

the other day, we were at the park with aunt dia...
some other little boys were pretending to attack her like pirates and my kale and madden immediately stood between Lydia and the boys, with their arms stretched out, ready to protect her from any harm.

i LOVED this!

to see their fearless nature displayed.
to see their innate masculinity come into play.
they were created for this.
to fight for people. for peace. for love.

"masculinity is an essence that is hard to articulate
but that a boy naturally craves as he craves food and water."
john eldredge, wild at heart.

"don't climb on that, don't break anything,
don't be so aggressive, don't be so noisy,
don't be so messy, don't make such crazy risks.
But God's design
- which he placed in boys as the picture of himself -
is a resounding yes.
be fierce, be wild, be passionate."
john eldredge, wild at heart.

i don't ever want to tame or domesticate my little men.

i want them to explore and dream and fall down and get back up.

i want them to rise up in the face of adversity and to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

i want them to love passionately and go after their dreams without a moment's hesitation.

i want them to become warriors for Christ. to live to protect His Gospel.

i want them to be strong men.
to be wild warriors at heart.

i want them to be like my God.

and i revel daily in the blessing of bearing witness to this transformation.
