hello my name is...

hello, my name is...

worthless, of no value to the body of Christ.

favored one.
treated or thought of with great kindness, partiality and with preference.
endowed with special gifts, talents or advantages.
having an appearance of a specified kind.
supremely favored or fortunate.
preferred above all others. best loved.

i have struggled for as long as i can remember with some strong insecurities.
insecurities that keep me isolated, retreating from fellowship and community.
insecurities that tell me i am of no value to the body of Christ.
that there is no need for me to engage.
that i am better off and safer if i keep to myself.
keep my heart, my story, my struggles, my victories, my gifts, my family...
all from relationship with others.

these insecurities are pretty loud.
so loud at times that they make it extremely difficult to battle them with truth.
i admit to believing them more often than i care to admit.
sometimes they carry over from my relationship to community, into my relationship with God
i begin to believe that i am not worthy to be in close relationship with Him.
that sitting at the feet of God is reserved for others and i am to remain on the outskirts.
i know it sounds awful to put into words.
and i would tell anyone struggling with such thoughts that they are simply not truth.
and yet, i struggle.

and then, i dive into scripture and truth begins to set me free.
truth tells me otherwise.
truth reminds me of my identity.
truth confirms that i am chosen and valued and secure in my faith.
truth reminds me of the gifts i have been given and the ways God intends to use those to share His love.
truth reminds me that i am dear to him.
the apple of His eye.

the scripture that i cling to the most...

"for the Lord your god is living among you. He is a might savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. with His love, He will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs."
zephaniah 3:17

"you have granted me life and favor, and Your care has preserved my spirit."
job 10:12

"for i know the thoughts I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."
jeremiah 33:3

"and the glory which You gave Me, I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are One: I in them and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that they world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me."
john 17:22-23

"and God is able to make all grace about toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work."
2 corinthians 9:8

"blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ."
ephesians 1:3

"let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
hebrews 4:16

"but when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life."
titus 3:4-7

"grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue."
2 peter 1:2-3

"then i saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old earth had disappeared...i heard a loud shout from the throne saying, 'look, God's home is now among His people. He will live with them, and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them. He will wipe every year from their eyes and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. all these things are gone forever!' and the one sitting on the throne said, 'look, I am making everything new!' and then He said to me, 'write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.'"
revelation 21:1-5

how beautiful and freeing truth is!

  1. Katie, thank you so much for linking up. I'm so humbled to read your words and see how God is speaking His truth to your heart. What an awesome thing to serve a God who thinks so highly of us and who loves us so much?

  2. YES ME TOO! I'm noticing a theme in today's linkup - insecurity! It makes me even more thankful for a God who pursues us relentlessly until we realize our worth is in Him. So glad you linked up and shared today!

  3. 2 Corinthians 9:8 is one of my favorite scriptures - what a reminder that it's God who makes me good enough to do whatever he calls me to, and makes me sufficient. Thanks for sharing your heart. :)

  4. Thank you for sharing! God is so sweet to free us from the lies we believe by opening our eyes to the truth of how He sees us. Zeph. 3:17 is one of my very favorites. :)
