a love affair with moving.

** best way to keep your kiddos entertained while you are packing: hand them a marker and let them go to town on the boxes. :)

so i don't really have a love affair with moving, but it would definitely appear as if i do with how much i have done it in my life time. this little space has received some neglect over the last few weeks, in large part due to the fact that we are knee deep in yet another move. my husband accepted a position at a new high school (the high school that he went to!), so we are relocating to be closer to where he will be working! we will actually still be in the same city, but in a totally different part of the city.

i thought i would share some fun little moving facts to distract me from the ten other boxes waiting to be packed. :)

my dad was in the air force for the first 23 years of my life, so moving was quite literally a way of life.

and then i married a football coach who has proceeded to move me five times in our five years of marriage.

and i quite honestly wouldn't have it any other way. :) i kinda thrive on change and get the itch to move if i have been in the same place for two years.

i have moved 20 different times, lived in 4 different states, and lived in 10 different cities.

all four of my babies will have been born in the same state but in different cities and i have moved during each pregnancy. (although i think moving at 32 weeks is the farthest along that i have been during a move...i'm pretty much toast by 8pm every night)

my oldest is four and is about to move into his sixth home. my #2 is three and is moving into his fourth home. my #3 is one and is moving into his third home. i guess you could say we are raising little nomads.

i'm pretty sure i missed my calling as a professional packer. ha. i actually find it enjoyable to go through everything, purge the things we don't need and then pack up the rest. fitting things into boxes just so is like a game to me. :)

i have learned over the years that a home is exactly what you make of it. and that even the most unlikely of places can find a way into your heart after you have filled it with your people and your memories.

i looked at homes a little differently this time around...as the thought that i would have my baby girl within its walls was always on the forefront of my mind.

sometimes all of the time, i find myself shrinking back from real, deep relationships with people because i subconsciously know that i will more than likely be leaving those relationships in the near future. and i am THE WORST at keeping in touch with people once i have moved away. both are significant downsides of moving so much and aspects of myself that i would like to be different.

and on the flip side...i am well acquainted with how it feels to be the "new person" in a situation, so my heart is always on the look out for others who may be feeling that, needing someone to reach out to welcome them.

we do want to be able to set down roots somewhere some day. i have dreams of raising my kids in the same place with the same people in their lives for the majority of their childhood and teen years...and at the same time, i feel like it would be easier to just keep moving every few years. i know how to do that. the other is much more uncomfortable and unknown.

i have learned that God always provides in very tangible ways exactly what we need, when we need it. His plans are always perfect and even though being patient in waiting on those plans to be revealed is tough at times, I am always in awe of His perfect provision and protection over our family. each move has deepened my trust and faith.

i promise my presence here will pick back once this move is finally made!! hope you all are having a lovely monday! xoxo.

  1. I am a pastor's kid, so I moved around a lot growing up. We moved 4 times in our first 4 years of marriage, but now have been in our home almost 5 years. I enjoy the stability now, but moving really did make me a more adaptable person.

Looking forward to hosting the link-up with you next week!
