a story about love.

one of the many bed-time stories i tell my boys about love.

there once was a little boy whose mommy loved him very, very much.
but not because he was great.
or perfect.
or the best little boy in the world.
you see, sometimes he makes mistakes. or choices that aren't the wisest.
she loves him no matter what he does or doesn't do.

the main reason she loves him, is because God made him,
and put love for him in her heart.
God made him with the prettiest rosy cheeks, and soul-deep eyes, laced with the longest of lashes.
God gave him such a sweet, tender, cuddly spirit.
He made him strong and brave and courageous, with a desire to save others.
She adores that about him.
but most of all, she loves that God gave him to her, to have and to hold as he grows into a man.

but what is really important, is that even more than this mama loves her boy, God loves him.
This makes her happy…to know that the God who made her boy, loves him even more than she does.
God made her boy because He wanted to know him.
He wants to be the closest to the boy and to know the deepest parts of him.
So He gave the boy a desire…a desire to know God and to search for Truth his whole life.
A desire to love God and to please Him.
A desire to serve God alone, above all else.
He set eternity on his heart.

The mama knew this, so she prays and hopes and waits for the day the boy’s heart will know God.
The day that desire will be met with God Himself.
She knows her boy and God will grow close. And even though their relationship will be difficult at times, and will probably even involve suffering, she knows that her boy will always love and follow the One who made him…the One who gave him to her.

  1. Hi Katie! My name is Bridget, I found your blog through the Proverbs and Pacifiers link-up. I just wanted to say thank you for being such an encouragement. I am married with two babies and I love being a mom. Many blogs are very discouraging about motherhood and kids but yours is a breath of fresh air! I loved your post about things not always being perfect, but still loving and being thankful for your life. All I could say was amen! I enjoy your posts and am so excited for your new addition. Thank you again for your lovely example of motherhood in this negative world! You are a blessing!
